5 laughs!!!

I'm such a slacker! It's been several weeks since I've posted my top 5 laughs...but I'm back!

Let's go!

1. Eyan has been sleeping in his toddler bed for about a month now. He as of late has been telling me that before bed there are turtles biting his toes. OMG! It's too darn cute.

2. I am the worst gambler in the history of the world. So I make up for it by drinking and apparently pretending to win jackpots. Jason and his aunt were just laughing at me randomly yelling and pretending to play. Thank you amaretto sour for my awesome gambling skills.

3. Eyans new thing is that you have to put medicine on every owwie. So a few days ago Jason and Eyan were playing and he bumped his head pretty lightly. To him it was the end of the world and he needed medicine. So off we went to the cabinet and I pretended to put some medicine on it. Jason then tried to kiss it after the medicine was "on" and Eyan got upset at him and said "no take my medicine off". We just laughed.

4. I thought I had enough room to roll over on the hotel bed. I. Was. Wrong! I fell outta that damn bed so hard and Jason just laughed his butt off at me.

5. The other night we were out to eat and Eyan needed to potty. So we went and he went and when we walked out he ran up to this little girl and yelled "I pottied!" So silly

Happy Saturday!

Happy 4 year Anniversary My Love!

Yeah 4 years doesn't seem that long right.  Except that in reality my hubby and I have been together for 11 years!  So technically its happy 4/11 year anniversary.  This past decade plus 1 have had their ups and downs and through it all, we still love and cherish each other.  I thought I would commemorate our anniversary by going through some old wedding photos and reminiscing.  Ready for the dump?

My wedding day was amazing, we had well over 400 guests attend our down home country back yard drinkingfest.  It was everything I could ask for and more and if I had to do it all over again, I would do it the exact same way (well except for my mom not enjoying the pre-wedding activities due to some uhhh issues...see below).

My wedding party, sans me...we'll get there in a second.  Colors were pink, teal & brown

My handsome hubby!  Ohhh Lala

So why am I not in any pictures?  Well Jason had an accident about a month before the wedding.  We got married at my parents old farm house and it needed some serious exterior work before we could actually have the ceremony.  We truthfully I was fine getting hitched in the weeds with all our friends and family around, but my parents wanted to finally get the exterior looking as fantastic as the interior so this was a perfect reason for that to happen.  So a month before the wedding Jason and my dad were doing the siding and Jason went head first off a ladder and tore his shoulder pretty much off. So with Jason out of commission, my mom had to step in and do a lot of the work.  Why was this a contributor to me not being in the pictures?  Because my mom was making my dress and working 50+ hours a week at her full time job.  Not much time to finish my dress, plan the wedding and help in the yard.

That's my mom, DAY OF, and that is my wedding dress on the machine and in pieces on the couch.

I was 45 minutes late to my own wedding, in 90 degree heat.  Thankfully our guests were enjoying the misters, and music and mingling, so no one really cared, but at one point I put on my mom's white robe and just about walked down that aisle.  My mom and her friends really came through and busted out my wedding dress and it looked amazing...everything I wanted and I was just overjoyed with it!

Daddy walking me down the aisle.  Dress was satin with pink accents.  the back had roses on it!

After a fantastic ceremony by my Uncle Zig, Jason and I sealed it with a High FIVE...and a kiss :)

I just love this picture...kinda looks trashy, but is completely me.  Does this mean I am trashy?

Being the sweet hubby he is, he rightfully shoved that cake in my face.  I was actually laughing after this.

garter toss...check out the guy leaping forward to catch it!  Hysterical!

Did you know I coached high school cheerleading for almost 7 years!
My girls popped up some simple stunts and went for that bouquet! SO UNSAFE GIRLS ;)

Jason and I did the Evolution of Dance for our first dance.  Only 2 people knew this was happening, so people were so surprised and could not stop telling us how awesome it was!

More of the first dance...Baby Got Back!

I Love you Honey!  Happy Anniversary!

We're on Fire

Colorado is burning, not just from the 9 (or maybe 10 at this point) fires that are actually burning, but from the ridiculous heat.

It is insane how quickly these fires are starting and how many people have been evacuated.  No one is truly safe at this point and we have received no rain in at least a week, but probably more.  This time of year it is usually very hot during the day and then around 3 or 4 pm we get rain.  Not this year.  El Nina is owning us.  Now as a scientist, I realize that this is just natures way of removing all the poorly maintained old and diseased trees, brush and undergrowth and starting to renew, however, it is still tragic.

This is the temperature on my car after I had been driving for 20 minutes.  About a minute before I took this is read 107 degrees.

Bring on the RAIN and help out our firefighters!

Hott Mess

Yeah that should really be my name. The last several days I have been on the go like crazy. I am SOO tired today that I cannot even parent. These are days where I just wish my husband did not work graveyards and could help more.

Oh and our AC on my basically brand new house is broken! Yay for us in this 100 degree heat.

This is how I feel today!

Summer Vacation?

It's not that I am trying to ignore my blog, it's just that life gets oddly enough super busy in the summer.

Why is this, shouldn't I be relaxing an taking all sorts of exotic vacations, isn't that the life of an overpaid teacher who has all this time off? Wait WTF? Oh that's right, I work ridiculously hard throughout the school year leaving no real time to do anything great with my family or take care of my house and barely make enough to cover the bills. Sorry tangent.

Ok so really my summer is full of the following:
1. Making lists...because I have a ton to catch up on.
2. Spending enormous time unplugged with my kid...potty training right now, but typically going to see family that get neglected with our crappy schedule, having play dates, swimming, and other fun kid stuff!
3. Catching up on the nitty gritty in the house. Yeah those bills that I LOVE to have organized, only get put into the correct folders when I'm on break, and the cabinets that need to be reorganized and cleaned, yup I'm on it. Oh and I've got to organize a garage sale right? Basically when Eyan naps, mommy does all those crappy jobs that we all refer to as "spring cleaning."
4. Spend more quality time with Eyan.
5. Actually have a social life.
6. Oh and getting roped into planning my high school reunion...ugh!

So yeah, I'm super busy, but I enjoy every moment of my "relaxing" summer vacation.

Oh yeah and I'm in a wedding this weekend for my friend and am super stoked!

Found a decent picture of my mom & Eyan while cleaning up the files on the computer!
Happy Day!

WW: I Love You Mommy

Just moments ago my sweet big boy walked up to me, hugged me around my knees and said "I love you mommy!".

I must be doing something right :)

Love you too Eyan!

Going #2

Is a pain in the butt. My kid has control issues. I've got no clue how to encourage the pooping in the potty situation. He seems to do it when I turn my back for a second.

Advice blog friends?

I apologize

In advance for the crappy blogging and lack of pictures. I have just not been as snap happy lately. We just returned from camping and it was nice to get away. We regressed a little in the potty training dept, but are already getting back on track. I completely forgot my camera and didn't even think to use my phone to capture some great moments. But here are some for you to picture in your mind.

1. Eyan riding his little power wheels 4-wheeler all over our camp spot and literally driving it until it died in the same day. You should know that he can normally drive it for 6-8 weeks constantly around our house before it dies, but climbing rocks and hitting all the rugged terrain pushed that 4-wheeler to death quicker.

2. Pooping in the woods. Yup he did it and it was hysterical.

3. Falling asleep on the 4-wheeler ride with his papa for the 2nd year in a row.

The 4-wheeler being talked about is pictured below. My kid is alive in the good ol' Rocky Mountains!

Happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful dads out there but especially to my hubby and daddy!

Day 4!

Day 3-ish

Today was good, not great, but good. Eyan woke up at 1:30 last night and when we combine that with the fact that I stayed up until 12 because of course I needed to watch Teen Mom, we had us a tired mommy. So when 6 am rolled around (what is this 6 am business, it used to be 7...ugh!) I was less than excited. But I got up anyway, and got his breakfast ready and we did the potty thing. Eyan did fantastic today potting in the potty, but pooping is not our friend. We only had 1 pee accident and I take a bit of responsibility for that since he had a mouth full of cookies and was trapped in his high chair trying to get out while I absentmindedly was cleaning him up thinking he just wanted to go play with his toys. I didn't even think he needed to potty and he was so sad. Bad mommy. Like I said yesterday, night training is just not happening, so we put him in a pull up and when he took a nap he must have pooped because I definitely had to clean that. Then this evening, right before bed, I asked if he had to go potty and he said no then ran to where I couldn't see him, came back quickly and said "I pooped.". We were outside and I had to chase him and when I finally caught him he surely did poop and on top of it told me that the dogs poop in the grass so he did too. Great logic kid, but not exactly. Tomorrow we do everything we can to poop in the potty again.

Big news today, is that we had to run and get dog food and some groceries and Eyan pottied in the public potties 3x! They were small, but I was so proud and he told me that he was proud too!!!

Alright so maybe I am not a complete failure as a mom

So yesterday was frustrating.  At one point I actually was crying and wondering if Eyan just wanted a better mommy because in my opinion, I sucked.  My patience was thin, his tantrums were killing me and I just had a lot higher expectations then I should have had in a two year old.

So lets examine what I did wrong yesterday:

1.  Following the 3 day method, you are supposed to ask your kid to "tell mommy when you need to go potty."  UMMM I think I overdid it by about 10x more than he wanted to hear it.  I am dang positive he was ignoring me and doing the complete opposite purposely.

2.  We didn't do rewards or praises for even "trying" to sit on the potty.  So yeah I could see why he was less than happy with mom.

3. After he did have his one success, I did celebrate and he did get a potty prize, but I didn't really let him enjoy it because I kept trying to keep with the method and say, "tell mommy when you need to go potty."

4. I got frustrated and grumpy and was not being positive with him...hence the "I am a terrible mother and suck at potty training."  I shut down and cried out of frustration and I don't think my emotions helped the whole situation.

Overall, yesterday should NOT count in the potty training days.  It was a whole mess of crap and terrible parenting and frustration.

Do you wonder how today went?  Well it was freaking AWESOME!

I went to bed at 9:00 last night and was up to hungry dogs and a sopping wet toddler at 5:40 am!  Yeah 5:40 am and pee and dogs everywhere.  First I fed the dogs then I tended to the wet toddler (This was also the moment I decided that night training is NOT an option at this point, maybe in a few more weeks.  Lets be real, although Eyan does not have a sippy cup 2 hours before bed, he apparently can store enough pee, even after going right before bed, to soak his pillow, sheets, plastic pants, stuffed toys and of course himself.  I will figure this business out later).  Ok so after the great urine clean up, my mom came over to watch Eyan and I got ready to leave.  I left about 7:00 and was back at home by 9:30.  My moms report was that Eyan stayed dry and did not potty in his pants, but seemed to be doing the potty dance.  We did make a correlation from the previous days craptastic adventures that Eyan likes to run and hide when he potties.  So as my mom was getting a warm cup of water to dip my kids hand into (bahahahaha...I did not realize this was her plan until she told me later), Eyan ran and hid behind her and peed, grandma grabbed him up and RAN to the toilet and Eyan finished peeing through his undies in the potty.  Not great, but ok.   We changed the little guy and cleaned up and I talked to him about making sure that he potties in the potty and just keeps trying because he is so awesome and I know he can do it.

Then about 20 minutes later, Eyan started to hide and grunt and grandma told him to go the potty and he said so sadly "its scary."  I grabbed him up and I we went into the bathroom, he told me it was scary and I told him that it is not scary and that he is a big boy.  My mom yelled to remind me to give him his privacy as he likes to potty in private, and so I pulled his underwear down and told him to try and go on the potty and that I would be back in with a treat in a few minutes.  I closed the bathroom door and about 1 minute later I heard him close the potty chair lid.  I was so freaked that I was going to have a pile of poop on the floor, so my awesome mommy offered to go in and investigate.  What did my BIG boy do?  He pooped in the potty all by himself AND wiped his own booty clean!  He was SO proud and got his Buzz Lightyear toy that he had been eyeing.  What a fantastic moment that we celebrated.  I made sure to play with him and his new toy and celebrate and kiss him and tell him how proud we all were and what a big boy he was.  He LOVED the attention and the rest of the day was spent peeing in the potty and trying to pee in the potty and we didn't have even 1 accident the rest of the day!  He pottied ALL day in the potty and was AMAZING!

I would like to send an awesome shout out to my mama for helping this morning, my hubby for being supportive and helping out and my best friend Stacey for spending the entire day with me keeping me grounded and encouraging.  I know that breaks the whole 3-day potty training method rule, but this mommy needs her back up and is super thankful for all of our support.

So there it is, potty training sucked (past tense), but we are going to get through this and I know my little man can do this.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Potty Training Sucks

Yup I said it and I mean it. We only had 1 success today and 6 complete fails, tons of hitting, tantrums, and flat out running and hiding.

This whole love, patience, consistency and dedication crap is not working. I have followed this 3-day method to no real avail and tons of frustration.

I am giving it two more days before I throw the towel in, and give up. I don't know a toddler more "ready to train" according to all the literature I have read, but I think my kids attitude and stubbornness might win out here.

Feeling defeated need some motivation please!

Signing off

Temporarily that is!

This week is THE WEEK!  We are potty training.  I followed Sarah over at Nurse Loves Farmer and her success with the 3-day method and I too will be following this method.  I have read the e-book a few times and blocked out the time and this is our week!

So with that, one of the points that I must follow is COMPLETE focus and dedication to Eyan for the next 3 days; no technology, no FB, no TV shows and no leaving the house.  So I will be signing off for the next 3 days.  Well I think.  If I am not too tired and Eyan continues to sleep well in the evening, then maybe I will give some updates each day, but no promises.  Let's just call this our temporary sign off.

Wish us LUCK!

Disneyland!!!

Is within our reach! Today we refinanced our house for a lower rate and payment. We will be taking the money we are saving on our mortgage and putting it in our vacation fund to go to Disney next spring! I am beyond excited and praying that nothing huge comes up and we can still afford the trip in 10 months.

In other news I did gain some motivation to clean my house as I had my moms impromptu birthday dinner at my house. So within 2 hours I cleaned the house (minus serious dusting), cooked dinner, and baked a cake. It was a nice night with the family and I'm glad my mom had a nice dinner and yummy cake (devils food with cream cheese frosting)!

Also I just had to put this funny picture up today!

I need some motivation

Summer is here! So naturally I have decided to sleep when Eyan takes his marathon naps and be completely lazy! My house feels like a disaster even though it is picked up. But picked up and organized is not clean, like shiny smells like new house and lemons clean.

I have no motivation! None. Today I attempted to clean the living room. I reorganized Eyans toy bins and dusted and then decided I wanted to watch Harry Potter & the Deathly Hollows pts 1 & 2! So here I sit in a semi clean living room watching me some Harry Potter. But I should be cleaning, oh and baking my moms birthday cake.

Happy Birthday Mom! One more year and your 50! Hope these 49 have been fantastic.

Mi Mama

This weeks Toddle Along Tuesday (TAT) topic is MOMS!

I have a pretty awesome mom like most.  My mom is one of my biggest supporters and I just love her!  My mom has been there for me and always is a ton of fun.  We talk daily...ok probably more like hourly and are very close.  She is one of the biggest reasons I made it through the first 3 months of Eyan's life without losing my sanity with a colicky baby that DID NOT SLEEP!  That is no joke, Eyan probably only took a few 15-30 minute naps every 4-6 hours, that includes the nighttime!  I did not sleep for 3 months for more than 5 hours a day if you totaled up all the small naps I would get.  So my mommy (and sister) came and saved me constantly while my husband worked.  She is also the main reason that my basement MUST be finished before another baby joins this family.  Sleeping on the couch just isn't fair and a nice cozy room with a bathroom and separate living room would be super nice for her.

My mom is one of the MOST important people in my life, she like many others have sacrificed so much for me including 43 weeks of pregnancy and a baby pretty much born in a car.  Yes I was super over-due...that is what you get when you don't have insurance in 1984.  In addition, mom has super quick labors where she would basically go from 3cm to 10cm in one contraction.  So when she wasn't in "active labor" according to the hospital they sent her home and about an hour later my parents were on their way to the hospital with my head in my dads hand as he flew to the hospital and my mom desperately tried NOT to push me out.  Long story short, she is a rocking mom and I pretty much want to be just like her...well except for the hot-flashes and road rage.

Here we are...

Four nights in to his toddler bed, with NO milk cup and surprisingly it has been relatively easy. I feel like I may have hyped up this change in my mind more than it was necessary. He is doing great and seems to really love his new found freedom in his room. He enjoys playing with his toys in his room and reading books and even sleeping! He has been marathon sleeping lately and has not been waking up in the middle of the night.

So now we only have one more obstacle to overcome and I am confident that this one will be a challenge. Everything else has been too easy. I have bought or borrowed all the necessary potty training items, the toddler potty, the seat that hooks onto the big boy potty, the travel potty seat, the Elmo potty book and movie, big boy undies in all his favorite characters, and potty prizes! We will be doing the 3 day method and I am praying it goes well.

I hope I have everything!
Toddler Potty & Undies!
Attachable potty seat & collapsible travel seat
Some of the potty prizes
The epitome of potty training...ELMO
The collapsible potty seat

He did it!

Eyan slept ALL night in his big boy bed without waking up!

He did not want this picture taken this morning :p
