Sweet Summer Time

You remember that sound of the ice cream truck. The music just draws you outside. Then you see the ice cream prices; $3.25 for a Spiderman Popsicle! Then you look at your sweet child and fork over the cash. You strip said child down so as to not ruin the clothes and watch as your child happily consumes large amounts of sugar.

Then there is the mess. The sticky, dripping all over purple mess. So you try to wash it off only to realize soap and water do not work. Said child now is sporting a purple beard for a bit. Ehhh purple beards are cool when your two...right!?!

Cheap toy, full entertainment

Sure all mommies know it...bubbles are magic and so fun. So when I ran to the store the other day and Eyan grabbed these bubbles I was all game.

He played for over an hour with these two days in a row! He was so happy and just loved showing me how to make a bubble and count the bubble wands!

I have a reason...

I have a reason that I have been less than consistent with my blog posts. I am so damn tired from work! I forget how exhausting it is to get back into the groove of work life, coupled with home life. I am one of those people that has to have a perfectly clean house and an OCD organized classroom. So when i've spent the majority of my summer playing and keeping up with light cleaning, throwing my job back into the mix tires me out.

To top that off, Eyan has been a busy busy challenge lately and if I am on my phone or the computer he is destroying something, attacking the dogs or getting hurt. I promise when things settle down a bit I will be back to consistent posts and great stories!

Thanks for sticking around!

Mother/Son night!

So last night Jason was crashed out after some testing for work in the morning (he works graveyards). So Eyan wanted pizza and a movie. Being the fantastically exhausted mother I am after my first real week of work in several weeks, we jumped in my car and went to Target. I grabbed a few groceries, some cold and cough medicine and then let him pick out a new movie. He chose "UP!". The over to Little Cesaers we went for a couple pizzas and then after getting slightly lost in a housing development we made it home. Eyan say so quietly eating his pizza on his mat watching his movie. When he was done he came and crawled up in my lap and asked me a ton of questions while snuggling! My favorite questions, "mommy why Kevin a snipe?" "oh no! Why them balloons pick that house up?" and "mommy that mean man bad, you no shoot grandpa!"

It was a fantastic cuddly night with my sweet baby boy.

Death warmed over

Oh dear God, if I make it through today it will be a miracle!  I am so so so sick and trying to pull myself together to manage my classes.

Wish me luck!

It never fails...

That when I return to work the colds and germs take over. Current family status: infected and living on the couch. Hopefully we will ALL feel better soon. Eyan is supposed to be going camping with Papa and Ammi tomorrow. Send us some healthy thoughts!

Happy Birthday to ME!

28 years ago my amazing mother delivered me after an insane labor and delivery.  Usually us mommies are all about sharing the birth stories of our children.  Today to celebrate my entrance into the world, I share with you my moms account of how I came to be.

I was originally due on July 23rd, but my parents did not have insurance, so they would not induce labor.  My mom likes to tell me that I was a pain from day one.  Every time she stood up she would get a bloody nose, she was losing weight and just plain miserable.  After all I was already 3 weeks late!  So on August 14th my mom went into labor.  Her and my dad headed down to Denver to deliver me and when they got there the nurse said that she would be lucky to have me tomorrow.  They gave her a sleeping pill and sent her home.  My parents drove all the way back to Brighton and went to hang out at a friends house.

My mothers labor progressed quickly and within 2 hours I was on my way out.  So my parents hauled butt and got in the 1972 Chevy Blazer with the Confederate flag a blow'n.  (No seriously my dad used to have a confederate flag in the rear window of this truck.)  About half way there I started to come out so my dad reached over and grabbed my head as my mother tried not to push.  After some chaos with a cop and a red light, my parents made it to the hospital only to have me almost delivered.  They realized as I was almost done crowning that the cord was strangling me so bad that they had to push me back in and unwind the cord and then as my mom put it, I "just fell out."  Classy I know.  So at 1:01 am on August 15th, 1984 I was Born!

So there is my story of how I came to be awesome and cool, oh and alive!

THANKS MOM!

TAT: Balance

It's TUESDAY!  So today I am linking up with Growing Up Geeky and joining in for the Toddle Along Tuesday hop.  This weeks topic is finding balance.

I find it completely coincidental that the day I return to work from a wonderful summer break, TAT is discussing how we find balance.  Truthfully, I have no real method to the madness in my house.  I just try to keep up with the day to day business and try not to get behind.

I used to watch Oprah pretty faithfully and one time I heard someone talk about how to easily keep up with the house.  They said that if a chore only takes 60 seconds or less then to just do it so those 60 seconds do not build up and end up taking an hour.  Examples of this in my house are changing the toilet paper roll and restocking the toilet paper, taking out the trash, taking laundry to the laundry room, 60 second toy clean ups and other small chores.  This method really works for us.

My house is almost 3000 sqft with some pretty large and grand furniture in it (hey I like the gawdy).  Usually it is ALWAYS picked up which means shoes are in the closet, clothes are hung up the dishes are either put away or waiting to be ran in the dishwasher, there is nothing out of its place.  I have OCD what can I say.  So typically when I do the the major cleaning (bathrooms, floors, dusting) it only takes a total of 2 hours!  Yeah 2 hours for a 3000 sqft house is NOTHING!  I completely believe that this is because I keep up on those little chores every day.

Now throw in work.  Well surprisingly I am so incredibly lazy during the summer that when I go back on my school schedule I am extremely organized.  I have to be to keep up with the housework, grading, snuggle time with my ninja, date nights with the hubby and every other aspect to being a wife, mother and teacher.

So how do you find your balance?

Painting

So in Eyan's Easter basket he got this painting set. I knew he was too small for it and that it was messy, but it was a dollar and that's what they make cleaning supplies for. So yesterday he wanted to paint. We stripped him down and he got to work!

So darn cute watching him be artistic and really focusing on where to put each color! He made 1 picture for Ammi and 1 for Papa. Minnie is Ammi's because it is "pretty and a girl" and Mickey is for Papa because "it's got colors."

Weekly Funnies!

Its been a while since I posted my top 5 laughs.  Things have been crazy...or lazy around here!

I think this week I am going with the top 5 funny things my son has decided to say lately.

1. Mommy I want some beer. (I hope he was referring to root beer?!?)

2. In looking at my aunts ultrasound of twins, Eyan tells me "MOMMY THATS A MONSTER!"  Bahahaha well at 2 I am sure that it kind of does.

3.  Daddy tells Eyan, "go tell Lily to be quiet."  Eyan walks over and whispers very quietly to Lily "be quiet Lily"  the dog barks louder.  Eyan walks away. Dog 1; Eyan 0

4.  Today we were in the backyard and Eyan is running around barefoot.  He steps in a pile of sweet steaming poop and states the following; "Mommy I pooped!"  For a second I think he thought he actually pooped.  He was standing all funny and couldn't figure out how the poop got out of his pants or when it happened.

5.  Every night when I put Eyan to bed he scoots over as far as he can to the side of the toddler bed and pats his bed and says, "mommy you want to lay with me?"  Melts my heart every time!

Family day at Lakeside

So once a year, my grandpa likes to take his family to his old stomping grounds to ride amusement park rides and have fun. Last year my Lakeside experience was not all that great. You have to understand that this particular amusement park is kind of old and is in a terrible part of town. Denver has a fancy and super nice amusement park in the center of the city, but it's also super busy and expensive. Lakeside is not near as busy and is very cheap. This year they were staffed better, the place was cleaner and the rides looked like they had gotten fixed up.

Eyan had a fantastic time this year and he rode EVERY kiddie ride! Even the roller coaster and this frog jump thing that takes them up and drops them in small intervals. He loved it and did so well! His big cousin Jesse and Caleb rode with him and so he never was too scared. Makes me so excited for Disney in a few short months!!!

I took a video of the roller coaster, but this dang blogger app on my phone doesn't let you upload videos. So here are just a few pictures of my precious boy and his day at Lakeside!

I'm at peace

With the loss of my precious angel baby in January. Today was my due date. Although it is sad, I have a full understanding that God has a purpose and in following his plan, I will prevail. There will be another baby. Jason and I are ready! We are not preventing and just leaving it all in Gods hands.

I'm hoping that soon I will have fantastic news and great updates. Until then, here is a picture of Eyan!

Funny Eyan

Oh boy tonight Eyan is full of funny!

I told him that he needed to go to bed soon and he fires back "I need dinner!" We just ate 2 hours ago, and he grubbed those enchiladas! Growing boy?!?

Our yellow lab Lily was barking because Mia was getting a belly rub. Eyan without hesitation walks over, points in her face and says "be quiet Lily!"

I then asked him to come take a cute picture with his crazy hair. Well you see how that turned out :)

People

I just don't understand how people can be so incredibly rude? It is so scary to raise a child in a world where rude posts/tweets/comments are "liked" and almost encouraged, but when people are genuine and positive there is no recognition. Now I'm not talking about any specific situation, just the world as a whole.

I'm scared to raise a child in our world. Our world where we think material objects are more important that sit down home cooked family dinners. Where winning at sports is valued more than a 4.0 GPA. Where TV is used to babysit. Where a 5 year old has a cell phone and Facebook!

I wish I knew how to change this world. I can only teach my child that life isn't about money or material items; It's about loving and being loved. I'm starting to believe in the "make love not war" movement. It's just disappointing to watch the hate, the shootings, the sadness in the world.

Anyone else just sad about this?
