More babies???

"Hey Laura, you and Jason make the most adorable babies I have ever seen.  Are you planning anymore?"

This question sequence happens so frequently.  Strangers come up and tell us this.  Now I LOVE hearing how cute my kids are.  No joke it's one of my favorite things about taking my kids out in public.  People come up to us constantly and tell us that (hey, please don't stop either)!  When Eyan was a baby I had this really awkward lady approach us and say "I don't like babies, but I have to tell you that yours is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen!"  Emberlynn constantly draws a crowd.  I'm not kidding, if I'm carrying her, people approach me in droves to engage her and ask about her. I seriously do not mind at all either.  These two humans are my everything; they are reflections of Jason and I and I truly believe they got the best if both our genes.

But getting these two perfect, beautiful, amazing people was hard.  It's no secret that I've had some pregnancy losses.  My pregnancy and delivery with Eyan almost killed the both of us and although Emberlynn's was much easier it was still high risk.

Jason and I had agreed upon 2 children prior to getting married and firmly after Eyan was born, Jason said "two and I'm done."  So number two is here and we are all healthy (thank God)...so are we done?  Firmly, YES!  Sorry ya'll, this is unfortunately not going to be a pregnancy/baby blog forever...even though I really wouldn't mind having just 1 more.

Jason took the official (and almost heart wrenching) steps and had a vasectomy.  I can't say I am 100% happy about this but I do know a few things:

1. We have 2 healthy kids and 2 healthy parents...some call it the "perfect" family because we have 1 boy and 1 girl.  I don't know about perfect, but we're completely happy.
2. Jason grew up poor (I grew up privileged but not rich).  He wants to be able to give his kids everything he never had.  He relishes in being able to go to the store and allow our kids to pick out a toy without worry.  Or take a vacation to more than just the mountains.  We want our kids to be cultured and world travelers.  With just 2, that is completely doable.  The world (American world albeit) is built for smaller families of 3-4 as well.
3. Neither one of us want to be "older" parents.  Nothing against those of you that have children in your mid 30's and beyond.  Jason and I just wanted to be done with kids by the time he was 30...he's 32.  We want to travel, enjoy our days growing old, our grand kids and hopefully great-grand kids!

Now I have been asked why I did not get my tubes tied since the docs were in there anyway?  Couple reasons...first, the hospital I delivered Emberlynn at will not do that unless it is an emergency.  Second, it does not have a good reversal rate (yeah we considered and looked into that if the unnerving need arises). Third, I have seriously considered surrogacy.  I probably wouldn't qualify due to my history, but I've always been intrigued and amazed by the families and women that do this.  If the right situation came along and I could gift someone my baby oven temporarily, I would.

So here we are...officially done.  So tell me, any pros or cons to this decision?

So I threw my back out doing who knows what on Saturday.  I gimped around for a couple days and today managed to snag an appointment with my chiropractor and massage therapist.  I decided to make a day out of it, as mommy really needed to relax and have a time out.

So off I went to the chiropractor...

Then I got a massage (no pictures...this is a family blog:)

Then off to the nail salon!

I plan on finishing off with a movie with my boy and something delicious to eat!

Motherlove My Saving Grace {Review!}

It is no secret that I am a nursing mama.  There never really was any question if I was going to nurse or not.  I had already planned that way before I was even pregnant.

When Eyan was born our nursing journey was not exactly easy.  He went to the NICU and I was not ever even asked if he was going to be breastfed or not.  They just gave him a bottle of formula.  If there is one thing that truly angers me about Eyan's entire birth experience, that would be it.  After a lot of thought I think they did it because they were thinking I was not going to make it or I would be in serious condition for a long while.  Regardless, it was a big set back and caused some issues that could have easily been prevented had I been consulted.

Eyan and I eventually got the hang of it and I nursed him successfully (but not exclusively) for over 10 months.  Around 3 months Eyan began to get really really fussy and really frustrated when I would place him to my breast.  Basically there was no milk after like 2pm and instead of doing something about it, I would give him formula.  He was supplemented with formula here and there and ended his first year on formula.

So when Emberlynn began the same behavior changes, I immediately started to worry.  Emberlynn is exclusively breastfed and I am really proud and ADAMANT that she stay that way.  Although I have NOTHING against formula, I just really want to do this MY way.   So I started talking to a lactation consultant and after some trouble shooting and trying EVERY technique in the book, she referred me to Motherlove Herbal Company.  I contacted these awesome people and they assessed my needs and sent me a sample of the More Milk Plus Capsules.

First off I cannot even express in words how helpful Kim and Sherri were over at Motherlove.  They were honest, listened to my needs and concerns and addressed them very quickly.

I received the product and began taking it as directed on the bottle.  What I liked about it was that it was in capsules so it was very easy to take one and not have to taste the herbs in it (heard that they do not taste very well) and the dosage is easy to follow.  What I don't like is that it is recommended that you wait 15 minutes to drink before and after taking it.  I am constantly thirsty so this has been tough for me, but I faithfully follow that recommendation and literally within 1 full day of taking the capsules there was a BIG change in my milk supply!

Prior to using the Motherlove More Milk Plus Capsules I could just barely keep up with Emberlynn.  If she is having a particular hungry day then there was a lot of fussing and crying and pacifying just to calm her.  After taking the product for the last 2 weeks, Emberlynn is MUCH more content and happy and full.  A bonus is that I am also making a little extra and I can store it!  I am so happy that our exclusive breastfeeding journey is going well and that I can provide this awesome nourishment and gift to my tiny peanut.

Another bonus that I am attributing to this awesome company is that Emberlynn is FINALLY gaining more weight and growing!  She has been slowly but steadily getting bigger, but the last couple weeks we have seen a pretty dramatic weight gain.  She went from gaining an average of .2oz a week to .5oz in the last couple weeks!  I can't be 100% sure but I think that since she can get more milk she is taking it in and is just a happy little growing peanut!

Overall, Motherlove was wonderful to work with, the product did exactly what it was supposed to and made my life so much easier!  Be sure to check out Motherlove on Facebook and on their website

We're Tired

I used to have a great little sleeper on my hands.

Then she decided to torture her mommy and stop sleeping 5-8 hour stretches a night.  It's like I have a newborn again.  Up to feed, change, rock and comfort every.damn.hour.  Now I get that 4 months is still relatively "new" and this is typical behavior.  Which it totally is.  But come on! Oh and naps...what are those?  It's 1:15 here and she has only taken a 10 minute nap since 9 am.  I've read tons of stuff; 4 month sleep regression, the wonder weeks and mounds of other "sleep expert" advice.  Obviously this is all happening, her sleep patterns are changing, she wants to sleep on me, she's developing like crazy and her feeding habits are also changing.  But I'm just exhausted and having a difficult time not losing my mind.  I love the kid, I know many people that would kill for sleepless snuggly babies and I wouldn't trade it.  So I guess we just deal...at least she's cute :)

Four years ago today my mother-in-law took her first full breath with Jesus.  Now I know a lot of people who dislike their in laws, but mine are top notch!  I love them so much, and even if Jason and I were to ever separate, I would so keep in touch with them.

My mother in law was a damn fine person, and would have been the best grandma.  My mom often jokes that if Cheryl were here Jason and I would never see our kids.  I believe her.  All Cheryl ever wanted to be was a grandma and I do not think its a coincidence that we found out about Eyan right after Cheryl passed.  She sent him to us.  She is our angel and she is always around.

I miss her dearly, but am thankful for the 8 years I got to know that beautiful woman.  RIP Mom.

There are days when I want to throw you out the window because Eyan wants to spend 357885644 hours on you in one sitting and I of course limit time.  Which turns him into a threenager from hell.  But then he produces cool things like this...

...and I am reassured that at least he is learning most of the time.  (You know except for the 2 hours he watches Mickey when mommy and daddy want the TV back for the evening occasionally)

Alice's WonderPrints {Review}

Oh.My.God I am in love with the newest addition to my children's rooms!  No joke they are perfect. What are they you ask?  Well they are these gorgeous prints of my children's birth information.

When I first contacted Kaylan the owner and designer of Alice's WonderPrints, I had no clue what exactly I wanted.  I knew I loved her designs, I knew I wanted to help her grow her business (because let's be honest this is some adorable stuff) and I knew I wanted to have something for both my kids.

Kaylan and I came up with doing birth information for the kids.  She collected some small tidbits of information, then asked for pictures of the kids rooms and went to work.  So simple and easy.  She sent me some proofs to edit and change as I deemed necessary and once we both loved the final product she framed them beautifully and sent them my way!  The quality of everything was high class and she really took the time to find mats that matched well and frames that were extremely well built.  I also loved how she took one of the airplanes from the pictures of Eyan's room I sent her and put it into the picture.

One of my most favorite parts was the little envelope attached to the back of each frame with a prayer in it for both my kids.  I left it attached to the back and when my kids move their rooms around (which we all know will happen) I cannot wait for them to find that little envelope!

Kaylan is an up and coming designer and is building quite the little business with Alice's WonderPrints.  She is so excited to be working with We Got the Funk and has generously offered ALL of my readers 20% off a print of your choice with the code "FUNKY".  She can do ANYTHING from birth announcements to invitations to the beautiful prints you see above and in various sizes.  Head over to her Facebook page or her Etsy store to check it out.  She takes orders through both Facebook and Etsy!

That day I took my kids to some bars

So in March a very good family friend and biker brother of my dads passed away.  He was a fantastic man and I only have very good memories of my "uncle Ed."  He died in another state and my dad's club was unable to make the formal services.  As is tradition in the biker community, you honor your brother.  So on Sunday the brotherhood got together and had a nice ride and some drinks in his honor.

We started the memorial off by meeting at a bar that he used to live and work at and had breakfast and said our stories about him.  I had the babies and didn't even think to get a sitter, so they came with me.  It really was lo key, everyone there is my family and we were actually on the patio and in the backyard of the bars, so truthfully they were not really in the bar area.  Regardless, after the breakfast, stories and drinks (not me!), we headed to our next stop which just happens to be one of my favorite places to grab some delicious nachos!

I packed up the kids from bar #1 and snapped some photos of my dad and his brothers riding and headed to bar #2.

My mama!

Bar #2 is Jerry D's and it's a biker bar in Dacono, Co.  It is a really cool place with great greasy food.  They have a wonderful backyard and this awesomely HUGE chopper.  Eyan and Papa had to take a photo.

I don't typically take my kids to bars, but everyone was great about it and like I said, they are my family and I could not miss out on saying goodbye to my "uncle Ed."

4 months!

My little peanut turned 4 months yesterday and we celebrated by having a nice family day and seeing her first movie;  Despicable Me 2!  She did pretty well, no crying, and even watched about 10 minutes of it!

Today we went in for her check up and shots :(. Glad that's over!

Weight: 12.2 lbs!!! She is finally gaining a bit more weight and is in the 11.5%!
Height: 2 ft and 32%

She is hitting all her milestones and doing very well developmentally.  She wears 0-3 month and some newborn clothes and size 1 diapers.  She smiles and giggles when you tickle her back and rolls over from belly to back.  She still loaths her carseat and I've tried everything.  For the most part she is a happy baby!

Happy 4th!

Today I give up...

Monday you have officially kicked my butt for several reasons:

1. Explosive dog diarrhea all over my living room (mind you I have white carpet and furniture and its 90 freaking degrees out).  Thankfully the hubby cleaned that up and shampooed the carpets and furniture and we managed to air out the place before it got to dang hot, but seriously!  I will spare you the photo of this one.

2. 4 month sleep regression.  Little human, mommy needs more than 4 hours of sleep...lock it up

3.  How in the heck do babies manage to spit up everywhere else but on the blankets and burp rags you laid out

4. Oh and of course while I was out shopping my freaking nursing shirt got pulled to the side and well...hello boobies!  Guess who didn't notice that until her son told her...ugh

5. This is the current state of my living room:
The kids need to nap simultaneously so I can get some cleaning done...no seriously, I can't even handle the chaos and the dust and the freakish amount of baby items crammed in here.

Someone send beer...it's only 3.
