Family Friday: IN SUMMER!

You Guys!  Today is my first day of Summer...and guess where I am at.  Yup I am at work with my bestie!

We are doing the final clean up as our building is under construction and well, when you teach in a huge school with a large science department and the building has not been purged in 27 years you can imagine the amounts of junk that we have sorted through.  Luckily I am on the final clean up crew and our work was minimal.  My amazing colleagues had quite the undertaking and did a fantastic job and I could not be more thankful for them.  Happy Summer to ALL the teachers.

Our Principals gift from our department.
Yesterday was my Principals final day as she is retiring.  She is pretty much the most amazing person ever.  She saved me from the job I call "Hell" and brought me to this fantastic place where I could grow and be challenged as a teaching in a professional way.  I do not even think that she understands the impact that she has had on my life both professionally and personally.  That lady has allowed me to break down, fall apart and be built back up.  She is already missed and yesterday there was not a dry eye in our building when she addressed our amazing staff for the last time.  We were so blessed to be in her presence, under her direction for the last 5 years.

In family news:

My kids are ready for summer too.  Trampolines, hanging out with mommy, riding our ATV's and camping are just a few of the things on our list.  I am so eager to do nothing for an entire week with them!

The little miss has been in rare form lately.  She insists on dressing herself sometimes and as a result we get some creative outfits like the one below.  In addition, we pretty much cannot leave the house without a baby doll of some sort.

The dogs are also ready for summer.  I mean come on look at this lazy pup.  Fun fact about this long haired 80lb dog is that I am pretty sure I brushed enough hair to build another 80lb dog out of.  It took me 4 days on and off of wrestling with her as the neighbors probably gawked and laughed.  As you can see it was extremely exhausting for her.

Oh and then there was this.  My poor little guy had a run in with a bug...that may have been a mosquito but we do not know for sure.  What we do know is that he had a pretty severe allergic reaction and after a concoction of benedryl and claritin the swelling has greatly decreased.  The picture on the left is yesterday morning (2 days AFTER the initial bite it swelled) and the picture on the right is last night.  Thank you western medicine.

So far this week was a whirlwind.  I finished up my 6th year teaching and my kid had an allergic reaction for the books.  Oh and I forgot to mention that yesterday morning when I was home alone my garage door just mysteriously opened on its own.  What a crazy week.  I am definitely ready for it to settle down and for what I think will be a fantastic, budget friendly, family filled summer.  Tune in next week to see what we have in store!

What excites you most about summer?

Bravo's #OddMomOut Hysterical Review

Tuesday I received an awesome screening package for Bravo's new show Odd Mom Out.  I could not hardly wait to watch it and since I was done teaching for the day and all caught up on grading a few of my colleagues and I hung out and laughed until we almost peed.  This show is already our new favorite and was a great way to ring in our summer break.

Odd Mom Out, Odd Mom Out Bravo, Odd Mom Out Trailer, Odd Mom Out Cast, Odd Mom Out TV Show, Odd Mom Out Premiere

The show is set in NYC and is based on an affluential family with one mom that is just not quite like the others.  She pretty much is me, which made the show that much more hysterical.  One of my favorite moments was Jill Weber (the odd mom) awkwardly "Won" the spin class race.  It was one of those moments where I was totally cheering her on to win a race on a stationary bike.  Her humor and antics are awesome but what I loved most was that Jill manages to stay grounded and real.

In this day and age of highly competitive parenting it is nice to know that there are more "Odd Moms" out there then you think and that we are really the norm.  Yes I write a blog and make cool things but most of the time I am a plain jane mom who plays on the ground with my kids, snuggles during movies, feeds them crap food and runs errands, all the "cool stuff" I do happens when my kids are sleeping.  We are all trying ladies, no need to be perfect, that is the beauty of parenting.

So are you jazzed to see this yet?  Grab some girlfriends and plan for June 8th at 10/9c to watch Bravo and catch the first episode.  It will be epic and you will love me for telling you all about this. Oh and seriously make these:

Oh wait there is more!  Odd Mom Out and Bravo are hosting an awesome sweepstakes.  Viewers have an opportunity to win $20,000 in each of the first 4 weeks of premiere episodes (starting 6/8 – 6/29) through the Tune-In to Win Sweepstakes. Make sure to tune in live at 10/9c on Mondays (6/8-6/29) for the secret hashtag and tweet it out to @BravoTV each week for their chance to win.

In addition, fans who engage early on will be able to take advantage of all of the VIM Perks Program discounts and will be entered into the Ultimate VIM Sweeps by sharing the sweeps with their friends using #OddMomOutSweeps and tagging @BravoTV.

Hex Performance Products Review

A couple weeks ago I introduced you to the Hex Performance Product line designed to clean and protect your sports gear.  I lovingly refer to it as "laundry care for your sports wear", and like the packaging says it is a radical breakthrough in clean!
Hex Performance Products, Gear Laundry System, Sports Laundry Detergent
Although my last post gave you the basic info about each of the individual products I did not get a chance to do a formal review.  So off I headed to Target on the big unveil promotion day to learn a bit more about what HEX has to offer and grab up the product to try.

Hex Performance Products, Gear Laundry System, Sports Laundry Detergent

The product is in the laundry isle and easy to locate.  Its bright packaging is great and I also love that the prices are very reasonable.  Items range from $2.00 for the spray to $13.00 for the detergent.  In addition they offered very high value coupons at Target for $5.00 off so that was a bonus!

The gentleman at Target that was demoing the HEX was very knowledgeable and explained that there are three main products to the line.  First is the detergent which is easily dispensable and comes with a great measuring cup.  Although the bag looks small I assure you that there are PLENTY of washes that you will get out of this.  A little goes a very long way in this situation.  Next is the spray that is an in between work out way to keep your gear smelling fresh and clean and help rid it of bacteria that causes those stenches.  Finally is the Dual Action gear wash which is a power combo to attack those odor causing bacteria and protect your gear to add longevity.

Hex Performance Products, Gear Laundry System, Sports Laundry Detergent

It was time to put HEX to the test with a pair of my sneakers that had never seen the inside of a washing machine (they are 2 years old).  I wear these things to work out, when we do labs in my classroom and working outside.  They are filthy as you can see in the photo, but worse, is that they smelled terrible!

I washed them with the Hex Performance Laundry Detergent and then dried them in our new dryer on the shoe rack.  When I opened the dryer door I was elated to quickly realize that my shoes DID NOT smell bad anymore, in fact they actually smelled pretty good.  In addition the detergent did get out some of the dirt.  Unfortunately my before and after photos look so similar because of the lighting that you cannot see the differences.  There are still some stains (because you know science labs stain everything), but overall the shoes are much shinier, cleaner and whiter.

Hex does recommend that you use this with your new sports wear and gear and continue to use it to ensure longevity and protection.  My shoes were 2 years old and I was very surprised that they were pretty clean and even more so I was elated that the stench was gone!

Make sure to check out HEX at Target and their Website!

DIY $5.00 Scarf Holder

If you are anything like I am, scarfs are your love and your closets nemesis.  I try to pride myself on keeping an organized closet, but honestly, the scarfs have just been thrown in their with no real organization.  I knew I needed a frugal fix that did not take up a lot of space.  Check out how I accomplished this DIY $5.00 Scarf Holder and read on to see what I will be changing.

What is great is that you probably have most of these items around the house, but if you do not, you can easily grab them at your local box store.  I had the clothes hanger and then purchased the yarn on clearance and the shower rings from Wal*Mart.  I actually spent $3.00 but figured that if you had to purchase the yarn at regular price that you would spend around $5.00.  Not too shabby considering that scarf holders on Etsy are running around $40.00!

It was very easy to make and I just did it one night while watching my favorite TV show.  I figured that it would be easier to type the directions on the photos this go round, so check out the photos and leave any questions in the comments section.

It looks great and is very functional.  I love that I can see all my scarfs better now.  I think you could easily add a 3rd row if you need more or just make 2.  However, there is one thing that I will be fixing on mine.  Take a look at the photo below.

It looks great and really does organize my scarfs, however, that bow in the center is not working for me, so I did a little readjustment.  It is not super pretty but I actually like it.  I think it looks fun and it definitely fixes the bowing problem!

Memorial Day & Grandpa

On a beautiful day in March, my husbands truly amazing grandfather passed peacefully with his loved ones nearby.  Grandpa was a veteran and as such was laid to rest at our local military cemetery with respect and honor.

In one of the most beautiful services I have ever attended two servicemen paid tribute to a man that has been critical to my husbands upbringing and truly the patriarch of our family.

Memorial Day is about the men and women who gave all and are no longer with us.  As an American who has not served in the armed forces, I am deeply thankful that there are those that were so brave, so strong and so willing to accept the ultimate sacrifice for my family to have freedom.

So Thank You to the Hubby's Grandpa and My Great-Grandfather and the millions of Americans who gave all.

RIP

Avocado Lime Chicken Tacos #SlowCooker #Recipe

Normally when I am sharing a recipe, I just flood your face with step by step pictures, but lets be honest here.  I didn't take photos other than this one because I was actually crazy busy and forgot. That is why this recipe is great, you can just quickly set it up and walk away.  Come back and eat!  So check out all the amazingness and PIN this recipe!

Avocado Lime Chicken Tacos, Recipes for slow cooker, Crockpot chicken tacos.

Ingredients:
  • Taco Shells
  • 3-4 Chicken breasts
  • 1 Sliced lime
  • 1 tsp of ground cumin
  • 1 tsp of garlic salt
  • Chopped lettuce, tomato and avocado
  • Shredded cheese
  • Your favorite hot sauce

Directions:
  • In your slow cooker, place 3-4 chicken breasts, a sliced lime, 1 tsp of ground cumin and 1 tsp of garlic salt.  Set it on medium heat and walk away.
  • When it is fully cooked, come back and remove the chicken (not the limes) and shred it.  I found the best way to do this is to throw it in my KitchenAid mixer and let it do the work.  It took 5 seconds and the chicken was perfectly shredded.
  • Place the chicken in the taco shells and top with lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese and your favorite hot sauce.
So what do you think?  How about trying this out for a quick and easy meal this weekend!

PreSchool Graduation

You guys!  My baby graduated preschool last Thursday.  It was a late ceremony as preschool ended for them about 6 weeks ago.  It has been a long 6 weeks for my little guy who has had little time to play with friends.  He is so eager to start back up at school next year.  The little ceremony was super duper cute.

First we started with the procession.  The little ones walked right in and took their seats.  They were all dressed so cute.

There was some hat adjustments and giggles

Then the presentations of the diploma!

My favorite part was when they went down the line and asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up.  Most kids answered, "firefighter", "policeman", and "veterinarian".  My little man so confidently said he wanted to be a "FIRE HYDRANT!"  The room filled with laughter and he just smiled right through it.  Anyone can be a fireman but it takes a special person to be a fire hydrant right?

Next they gave their mama's each a tulip to thank us for supporting them.

Finally they graduated and tossed their hats.

It was adorable and sweet.  I really enjoyed watching my little guy grow over the past 2 years of preschool and I know that he is ready for kindergarten.

I am a little emotional over all of this.  I cannot believe that I am about to have a kid in a public (kinda) school and that he is 5.  I know that parents always say that it goes by so fast, but honestly I cannot even fathom the speed to which these past 5 years have passed.  I know that I am excited to see him grow and see what type of student he develops into.

So parents, how did you all (or are you) handle the transition?

Patriotic Wreath DIY

Memorial Day is in just a few days and I am excited to put out our patriotic stuff this week! However, my home is never complete without a wreath.  I didn't have much time to work on a wreath this week with it being the final week of school, but I threw this adorable firecracker wreath together in just 5 minutes and for $4.00!

Memorial Day Wreath, DIY Patriotic Wreath, Firecracker Wreath.

Like I said the materials cost me a total of $4.00.  I purchased the foam wreath mold and the garland at the dollar store and I purchased the burlap bow at Michaels for $2.00 (with a coupon)!  What a steal.

  • To put everything together, grab your glue gun and secure one end of the garland to the foam wreath.
  • Wrap the garland around the wreath and use the glue gun to secure the tail end of the garland. (You may need 2 pieces to make the wreath fuller, this also depends on the size of your foam mold).
  • Attach the bow to the side of the wreath with the twist tie that is already attached to the bow.
  • Hang and enjoy!

What are your plans for Memorial Day?  Are you already decorating?

$100.00 Bathroom Remodel with Renuzit Pearl Scents #DesignYourAir

We have lived in our house for 5 years now and every time we have a redecorating or renovation project on our hands, I have been hugely pregnant.  It has only been in the last six months that I have had a chance at painting these terrible flat walls and really making my house, my home.  After my laundry room remodel, I decided to tackle the half bathroom but on a $100.00 budget!

Cheap Bathroom remodel, Frugal Bathroom remodel, Grey bathroom, Bright colored bathroom, Renuzit Pearl Scents, Odor Neutralizer, Air Freshener, Long-lasting

Our half bathroom is the bathroom that everyone who comes into our house uses, and it was outdated. It looked nice, do not get me wrong, but honestly the angel theme that I had going on had been in my bathroom since I was 14.  It was time for an updated change.  I knew that I wanted to go grey and at one point I was considering wainscoting, however, I came up something a bit better.

Cheap Bathroom remodel, Frugal Bathroom remodel, Grey bathroom, Bright colored bathroom, Renuzit Pearl Scents, Odor Neutralizer, Air Freshener, Long-lasting

First, I painted.  I chose a stormy grey color that looks grey in some light and purpleish in others.  I absolutely love it.  After the walls were painted, then the hubby and I installed a chair rail.  I painted the chair rail and the baseboards with a bright semi-gloss white.  The paint was $20.00 total and the baseboards were $15.00.  I purchased the paint at Wal*Mart which is why it was so cheap.

Once everything was painted and dry, it was time to decorate.  First was the sink area.  I purchased a new faucet for $30.00 and the husband installed that.  I also headed over to HomeGoods and snagged the candle cup and soap dish on clearance for $6.00!

After the sink, I moved to the walls and hung my inspiration piece.  The quote on the burlap canvas says "Don't forget to be awesome everyday".  It is colorful and beautiful and at $15.00 was right in my budget.  I then placed the bright orange plant stand with my Renuzit Pearls Scents and hung the curtain on an old rod.

Speaking of the Renuzit Pearls Scents, they are fantastic!  When I opened my box from them the bright colors and brilliant scents immediately enticed my creative side.  It made it easy to look for bright and passionate colors to use in my new decor.  The Renuzit Pearl Scents are great for the bathroom area because they are a long- lasting odor neutralizer.  They come in 5 amazing scents:
  • Serenity: Fresh Lavender & Eucalyptus
  • Tranquil: Chamomile & Jasmine
  • Seductive Pineapple
  • Blue Sky Breeze
  • and my personal favorite, Sparkling Rain.
Renuzit Pearls Scents really do offer Beautiful Air by Design.  Hurry to your local retailer to pick some up and don't forget to head to the bottom of my post to enter and win 3 free coupons!

A few more wall decorations and the room was finished.  It has a clean, bright, fresh feeling that we absolutely love.  I spent a total of $125.00 on the room remodel.  Shopping clearance and discount stores like the HomeGoods store were a lifesaver.  I found some great items at even better prices and cannot believe how well the room came together.
