Hello 2016 the Year of Me.

The last 6 years of my life have been dedicated to my children, husband, work, school and this blog. I regret none of that.  In fact I embrace it, love it, appreciate it and welcome more of it.  However, I have realized as my kids grow that I really need to take care of ME, so my word of 2016 is Me.

I know you are thinking that I am self-focused, self-centered and selfish, however, watch the video below from Jada Pinkett-Smith and rethink those opinions.  It really opened my eyes to the huge need for me to be me, take care of me and focus on me.

You see I cannot be the mom, teacher, student and person I want to be if I do not focus on what my needs are as well.  As a mom our needs are always on the back burner and I feel like this is why I am dealing with so much stress.

So this year I vow to:
  • Commit to my health:  This means get my blood sugars under control, add in exercise (right now it is Yoga to help strengthen my back and core), and take a moment each day to think of my needs.
  • Focus on the Positive:  I think the last few years I have been doing well with this so I want to continue to do this.  I am a firm believer of what you put out in the universe is what comes back to you.
  • Advocate for my needs:  My husband schedule is opposite mine and many times the responsibilities of well everything fall onto me and adds more stress and frustrations.  I almost never speak up about this because we both have demanding jobs.  Instead I am embracing that our family needs to have equality.  My husband is on board with this which makes life that much easier.
This is my year; the year that I finally find myself again so that I can be the best mother, wife, teacher and person I can be.

What is your word for 2016?
