I know you are thinking that I am self-focused, self-centered and selfish, however, watch the video below from Jada Pinkett-Smith and rethink those opinions. It really opened my eyes to the huge need for me to be me, take care of me and focus on me.
You see I cannot be the mom, teacher, student and person I want to be if I do not focus on what my needs are as well. As a mom our needs are always on the back burner and I feel like this is why I am dealing with so much stress.
So this year I vow to:
- Commit to my health: This means get my blood sugars under control, add in exercise (right now it is Yoga to help strengthen my back and core), and take a moment each day to think of my needs.
- Focus on the Positive: I think the last few years I have been doing well with this so I want to continue to do this. I am a firm believer of what you put out in the universe is what comes back to you.
- Advocate for my needs: My husband schedule is opposite mine and many times the responsibilities of well everything fall onto me and adds more stress and frustrations. I almost never speak up about this because we both have demanding jobs. Instead I am embracing that our family needs to have equality. My husband is on board with this which makes life that much easier.
This is my year; the year that I finally find myself again so that I can be the best mother, wife, teacher and person I can be.
What is your word for 2016?
