The "threenager" years have hit our house hard. Our littlest is bright, and fun and sassy and most of all desires to be independent. As a mom, I am working with her to recognize that we are keeping her safe while at the same time trying to foster her independence. One of those little battles in our house is bedtime. Although we are daytime potty trained, night time can be a struggle and our little girl does NOT want to wear a diaper. This is where Pull-Ups® comes in and calms the struggle.
You see our beautiful little girl is very particular about her bedtime routine. Our son was never this way, so it is a bit of an adjustment to follow her very specific "rules" about bedtime. To help guide her independence on this we have let her take the lead as much as possible. One fight has been the desire to wear underware to bed because diapers are for babies and are not pretty. The issue here is that she also refuses to go to bed without a sippy cup of water.
After we brush our teeth we read a book, put brother to bed and then retire to the rocker in her room with her Elsa blanket, her Toy Story Sippy Cup, her sound machine and we "snuggle just a lil bit"...which means I snuggle for up to an hour while she rolls and chats and basically calms herself down to the point I can lay her down. When she is ready I put her in her bed, give her her ugly stuffed monkey and do goodnight kisses and hugs.
The toddler independence has really been hard for me. My son has always been wonderful about letting me do things for him and honestly I am one of those people that likes things done my way. Allowing our littlest to dictate our evenings and be so opinionated on what she is wearing, brushing her own teeth, following her routine and in general making so many choices is different but not necessarily bad. The struggles that I have with my oldest now to get him up and going and get himself dressed will probably not happen with her. Her very clear organizational needs are something that I need to foster and probably a skill she has learned from her mama. I recognize that it is so important that I allow some independence.
