April Disney Updates

I barely held onto my life this month and so I am far behind on the latest updates from Disney!  There are SO many from Marvel, to Star Wars to the BFG!  Lets just jump right in!

The BFG:

The official trailer is out and already I am a giddy kid again.  This was my favorite book in grade school and I just cannot wait to see this in the theaters!  It is going to be amazing!  Check out the trailer below and fangirl with me!

The BFG hits theaters on July 1st and you bet your life I will be there with my kids in tow to see my favorite book come to life...Disney Style!  Here is some details on the movie.

The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg –finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. “I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children. It was very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light which was so much Disney’s original signature in a lot of their earlier works like in ‘Dumbo,’ ‘Fantasia,’ ‘Snow White’ and ‘Cinderella,’ and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson, an enduring lesson, to everyone, it was a wonderful thing for Dahl to have done, and it was one of the things that attracted me to want to direct this Dahl book,” says Spielberg.

The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams.

Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows. But Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Says Spielberg, “It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.” Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

Directed by three-time Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg (“Bridge of Spies,” “Schindler’s List,” ”Saving Private Ryan”) from a screenplay by Melissa Mathison (“E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “The Black Stallion”) based on the best-selling book by Roald Dahl, “The BFG” stars three-time Tony Award®, two-time Olivier Award and Oscar® winner Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”), newcomer Ruby Barnhill, Penelope Wilton (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Downton Abbey”), Jemaine Clement (“Rio 2,” “The Flight of the Conchords”), Rebecca Hall (“The Gift,” “Iron Man 3”), Rafe Spall (“The Big Short,” “Prometheus”) and Bill Hader (“Inside Out,” “Trainwreck”). The film is produced by Spielberg, Frank Marshall (“Jurassic World,” “The Bourne Ultimatum”) and Sam Mercer (“Snow White and the Huntsman,” “The Sixth Sense”) with Kathleen Kennedy (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Lincoln”), John Madden (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Shakespeare in Love”), Kristie Macosko Krieger (“Bridge of Spies,” “Lincoln”), Michael Siegel (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Rise of the Guardians”), Frank Smith and Naia Cucukov serving as executive producers.

Roald Dahl’s “The BFG” (Big Friendly Giant) was first published in 1982 and has been enchanting readers of all ages ever since. To date, the book has been published in 41 languages. Dahl’s books, which also include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach” and “Matilda,” have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. Originally created as a bedtime story, “The BFG” was Dahl’s own favorite of all his stories. “It was very important for us to be loyal to the language,” says Spielberg, “and the great writer Melissa Mathison, who also wrote ‘E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,’ wrote ‘The BFG.’”

“The BFG” opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story:

I may be enthralled in excitement for The BFG, but my son is on pins and needles waiting for anything Star Wars to come out.  He has several months to wait but come December Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiers and I am sure I will be taking my excited little guy to see this.

Good Morning America premiered the teaser trailer and I am going to share it too!  Take a peek:

Marvel's Doctor Strange:

Ok, Benedict Cumberbatch is in this movie and right now that is all I need to get me through.  The teaser trailer for this is out and it looks fantastic.  November 4th cannot get here soon enough.

I think this nearly gets us caught up with the awesomeness that Disney is currently creating.  I love getting the inside scoop and learning more about each of these movies and hope you do too!

A Super Mario Celebration with #OrientalTrading

Disclosure:  I was provided with a credit to Oriental Trading to facilitate this post, however, all ideas, thoughts and opinions are my own and were not swayed in any way.

My boy is 6 years old!  SIX!  I am trying to hold my tears back, but this week I have been spending more time soaking in these last years of childhood.  I mean 6 years flew by and in 6 more he will be a preteen.  I love celebrating birthdays with my kids.  I love to throw fun themed parties because I know that in a few years these parties will be non-existent and instead filled with sleepovers and preteen stuff.  So for now, I relish in the fun kid stuff, the parties. This year we went decided to go with a Super Mario themed swimming party and really have a good time.

The Invitations:

I used my favorite program, Picmonkey and designed it using some images I found in a Google search.  Then I printed them at Target as photos and boom 45 invites for under $10.00 done!

The Decorations:

The party room that we reserved was an under the sea themed room.  I knew that I really wanted to keep the focus with Super Mario, so I contacted my favorite decoration and party retailer, Oriental Trading, and got to work purchasing some decor and party supplies and designing the perfect Super Mario Party for my little guy.

The Super Mario Bros. collection is relatively limited in decor, but they had these great tablecloths at a fantastic price and of course the plates and napkins.  I love the durability of these items and they always have better prices on these then if you purchased in a store.  I also nearly purchased a Mario and Luigi costume for the husband and I to wear to carry the theme throughout the facility, but then I realized that it would be difficult to swim in a costume.

The husband and I decided to make silverware holders out of PVC pipe and green spray paint in the Super Mario theme!  I think the turned out super cute and they only took a couple minutes to make. We just allowed them to dry overnight and boom; warp tube silverware holders.

One of my favorite things about Oriental Trading is their enormous selection of party favors and candy bar items.  I can always find items to go with our party theme that I know our guests will love and at a great price too.  At our daughters Frozen themed party earlier this year, we did a DIY treat sack station and it was a hit, so of course I carried that idea into our Super Mario party and it was wonderful.

I purchased the clear candy cylinders and filled them with some candy and non-candy items.  I found the majority of my items on the Oriental Trading website.  We purchased chocolate candies, bubble gum coins, star erasers, glow sticks and the most amazingly tasty blue raspberry licorice through Oriental Trading.

I made some printable labels that I used throughout the party with fun sayings and these little pop up mushrooms as stands.  I also ran across some Super Mario pencils and tattoos at the last minute.  The teacher in me loves to hand out pencils!

The buffet was great and the kids really loved being able to pick items and also snack a bit through the party.  There was plenty for everyone and it was awesome to see the kids get excited and enjoy the sugar rush.

Food & Refreshments:

Initially we were just going to have cake and ice cream with some drinks, however, the party just happened to be in a BLIZZARD where the Denver area received a few FEET of snow.  We decided if people were going to brave the weather, we were going to feed them.  So we quickly called up our local pizza place and placed an order.

We also bought some water because the kids would be swimming and needing to rehydrate from all of that fun! However, fruit punch is always great to have, so we decided to make some to share as well.

I do not think any of us anticipated the kids being starving after an hour of swimming, but they were, so I was extremely thankful that we decided on pizza that morning.

The Cake:

My family loves Target cake and frosting and it just makes my life easier not to have to worry about baking.  As always they did a fantastic job.  The cake was enjoyed by everyone and although I completely forgot the candle, my mom was able to save the day so we could sing happy birthday to our guy!

The Fun:

Gifts are always a highlight for kids and this year our boy has an obsession with all things robots.  So when he opened our gift he was elated.  His friends and family spoiled him and we are so blessed with amazing people who love and support us.

The highlight of the party however, was not the presents or cake.  It was the swimming and I am SO happy with the location we chose.  It was very affordable, the pool is only a max of 4 ft deep which is great for Kindergarteners and their lifeguard staff is focused and impeccable.  I also loved that they have life jackets on hand and fit the kids for them to help ensure water safety.  It was really a great time and I know that my little boy adored his Super Mario Blizzard Swimming Party!

I could not have pulled this off without the help of Oriental Trading, so please make sure to check them out on their website, snag some deals yourself and enjoy every moment of building memories.

The Month of Sickness and How Pine Bros. Throat Lozenges are Helping!

Disclosure:  I was provided with the products and compensation for free for review.  My opinions are my own and were not swayed by an outside source.

The month of April has been AWFUL in our household.  We have been so sick and it has been awful. What started out as a sinus infection, turned into the most awful cold flu ever, the husband and the kids also got the stomach flu and now on the tail end of this we ALL have terrible sore throats and are 20 days into this sickness.  Luckily I found a great remedy with Pine Bros. throat lozenges to help combat these symptoms.

Last week I missed 3 days of work because my oldest started the cascade of the stomach flu.  It was a scary rough week for this mama.  I picked my oldest up after he vomited a lot at school.  The littlest also was really sick so I grabbed her from the sitters and we went home to rest for the day.  I was completely optimistic that I would be back to work the next day.

That evening was a whole awful night.  Both kids were throwing up, I did not sleep because they also had head colds and were overall feeling terrible and the littlest had a fever.  She was so sick and I was starting to get really worried.  We did go to the doctor where the flu was confirmed as well as a double ear infection for the tiny girl.  That night got really scary.

The tiny girls fever spiked to 103.7 or .9, I can't remember, and her breathing was incredibly fast. She was panting like a dog and so I called the Children's Hospital nurse help line and we were told to go straight to the emergency room.  That night was crazy, but we were home by the morning and the little girl is doing much better.  Round 1, 2 and 3 of this crazy cold/flu/stomach flu, were pretty awful but now we are left with this sore throat and needed something to combat it.

I ran to our local Target and was on the hunt for a throat lozenge that the kids could use.  I noticed Pine Bros. throat lozenges and grabbed all the flavors on the shelf.  They are approved for kids 3 and over and I was really excited that our little girl could use these.  The soft texture makes me less nervous that either of my kids will chew on the hard lozenge and damage their teeth.  These are soft enough that they dissolve in the mouth slowly, however, if you try to bite into them they are pretty tough.  These are not cough drops, they do not have any medication in them and the active ingredient is actually glycerin which gives it the soft texture.

Pine Bros. throat lozenges come in three flavors, wild cherry, lemon lime and natural honey.  My kids prefer the cherry flavor while I am more of a honey gal myself.  The lemon lime flavor is also good and refreshing.  The flavors are not very strong at all (which I prefer) and the ingredients are all natural.

Pine Bros. throat lozenges are the perfect addition to your medicine cabinet.  They have been around for 140 years and have been used to soothe throats by people with colds, allergies, vocal performers, chemotherapy patients and actors.  Our family is feeling the relief from our sore throats and this awful lingering cold and are very happy with the Pine Bros. products.

If you are looking for these, they can be found at your local Target right now, in the cough drop aisle and they are very affordable at $3.79 a package.  You can also check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

However, one of my lucky readers will win a $50 gift card to Target to pick up their own Pine Bros. throat lozenges.  Just enter the Rafflecopter below!

I am Embarrassed but I HAVE TO SHARE!

Disclosure:  This is NOT sponsored, in fact the company has no clue I am promoting them, but I want to scream from the roof tops that everyone needs to get this!

Six years ago we moved into our home.  It is a beautiful home and was nearly brand new.  The couple that purchased the home from the builder separated right after moving in and then abandoned the house 6 months after that.  It sat vacant for almost a year and we somehow won the home at an auction.  It was meant to be my home, but it did need some work.

Our First Christmas in this home!
The man that lived in the house was not super clean.  We had to clean the carpets and wash the walls. There was actually candle wax smeared in various spots of the carpet that had to be removed and nail polish on walls.  Due to the house being vacant for so long people also broke in and took the light fixtures and window screens and some appliances.  However aside from some minor cosmetic issues, this home was and is perfect for us.  We have fixed everything and because I am a clean freak we spent almost 2 weeks cleaning the house before we moved in.  We cleaned EVERYTHING.  I still clean constantly and I pride myself on a clean home, but there is just one thing.

My Soaker Tub...all the Heart Eye Smiles
Our master bath stand up shower.  I have a nice master bathroom.  There is a soaker tub and dual sinks, the lighting in this bathroom is phenomenal and it is just a wonderful little sanctuary. However, the shower was disgusting.  You would not know it by looking at the before pictures, but not only had I tried EVERY SINGLE cleaner on the market in addition to natural cleaners and tricks but I clean my shower weekly with bleach.

ROG3 Cleaner, Rog3 cleaner before and after, Rog3 honest review, Miracle shower cleaner, Industrial bathroom cleaner, industrial shower cleaner, how to clean your shower
We had already started putting the cleaner on when I realized that I should take a picture.
Gross, seriously disgusting.  I have been so embarrassed of this shower and even though I know that I have been trying for 6 years to clean this and that it is as clean as I could get it, it was still the eye sore to my nearly perfect home.  For 6 years it has been this color and to make matters worse the floor of this shower is textured and so the dirt and soap scum from the previous owners is embedded into the tiny textured crevices.  YUCK!  I hunted Pinterest and came across a small pin with hardly any traffic and no words on it with the products below pictured below.

ROG3 Cleaner, Rog3 cleaner before and after, Rog3 honest review, Miracle shower cleaner, Industrial bathroom cleaner, industrial shower cleaner, how to clean your shower

So naturally I jumped on Amazon to see how much this would cost me and get some reviews.  The reviews were all great and of course it was sold out and not available so purchasing there was not an option.  So then I started my Google search.  The detective work lead me directly to the company's website, which as far as I can tell is a one man operation.  ROG3 is the company and although I am not sure about their customer service and I have little in terms of facts, I can tell you that this stuff works and works well!  Check out my before and after.

ROG3 Cleaner, Rog3 cleaner before and after, Rog3 honest review, Miracle shower cleaner, Industrial bathroom cleaner, industrial shower cleaner, how to clean your shower

This was actually the after with only using the blue spray.  Once we put on the white cream bottle the shower was even whiter.  Now we learned a couple things.  We wasted a ton of our spray because we thought it would be a great idea to spray the ENTIRE shower down, let it sit and then use the provided scrubber to wipe it down.  Nope, bad idea.  It dries and even though you can wet it, it is not the easiest to scrub after it has dried.  So if you purchase this, do small areas at a time and start from the top of the shower and work your way towards the floor.  Also I found the scent to be strong so turning the bathroom fan on helped, the husband thought it all smelled good.  To each their own. This is a chemical, there is nothing hidden or natural about that but it says right on the bottle that you do not need to wear gloves to use it.  I didn't and my hands are just fine.

ROG3 Cleaner, Rog3 cleaner before and after, Rog3 honest review, Miracle shower cleaner, Industrial bathroom cleaner, industrial shower cleaner, how to clean your shower

My shower is so pretty and so clean.  There is no nasty previous owners grim embedded in it and it actually shines!  This cleaner is a miracle and I am so happy with how pretty my shower is.  These pictures do little justice as I took them at almost midnight but you can obviously see a huge difference in the cleanliness of it.

Bottom line, I would not be a good blogger if I did not recommend amazing products that have changed my life.  So head over to their website and snag some for yourself.  It is not cheap, but it is totally worth every single penny.

Dream Dinners Makes Life Easy

Disclosure: I was provided with free meals in exchange for a review, however, I am going back for more because these are fantastic and make my life easier, and you should too.

Today I turned in my final paper for graduate school.  You would assume that final paper meant that I am completely done with this program.  Well, no, I still have two more weeks and one class to finish up.  Life is still busy and I am so exhausted that deciding what to cook and actually cooking it is not on the top of my priority list.  That is where Dream Dinners comes in.  They have made eating at home, easy, fun and tasty.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

On a cold snowy St. Patricks Day, I wandered into our local Dream Dinners with Censie from Building our Story and a whole new world of feeding my family opened up.  I was introduced to easy dinner preparation with fantastic recipes that meet my dietary restrictions and an atmosphere that makes dinner prep fun.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

We walked in, grabbed our aprons, went through a quick tutorial of how to put together the recipes and then got to work prepping the recipes we chose and enjoying the music, some snacks and even a beverage!  I was pretty much a professional by the time I got to my second freezer meal and was thoroughly enjoying using new ingredients in my cooking and the ease of putting everything together. Essentially you would go to a station where your chosen recipe was set up to prepare and you would put it together.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

I was loving that I would set up my recipes and then all the clean up was taken care of by the amazing staff at Dream Dinners.  They would clean up any messes, were always helpful and asking if I needed anything and they were consistently restocking the stations to make for a perfectly stocked and clean workspace.  It was awesome to not have to worry about cleaning anything up!

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

The recipes were easy to follow and everything was color coded for easy assembly.  All the cooking directions were pre-printed and ready for you to place in your package and freeze.  To make 6 meals it took me less than 40 minutes to prepare and I still had time to laugh, snack and enjoy the experience.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

Packaging everything was so simple.  The sauces mixes were mixed with fresh ingredients and placed in one sealable bag, then the meat in another bag and the side in another.  Everything was placed in a large sealable bag with the cooking instructions and then placed in our designated area in the fridge, while we finished prepping the rest of our meals.  On our way out you could either put your items in a cooler you bring or they provided a box to carry the items out.  It was great!

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

You can also add on additional side items and desserts or even purchase already made meals to go.  It is really a one stop shop for family meals and the food is so flavorful and easy to prepare.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

We have made 3 out of 6 of the meals I made and our favorites so far have been this amazing Cattleman's Pie.  Even my kids ate this meal with all the veggies and delicious flavor.  I was a bit nervous because they are not fans of most vegetables, but both kids (and the husband) downed this entire pie.

Dream Dinners Review, Dream Dinners Experience, Dream Dinners in Colorado

Another delicious and easy to make option we enjoyed was the French Tarragon Chicken with Redskin Potato Wedges.  Wow!  I had never had tarragon, but it was a really great flavor and although I was nervous that the serving size was too small for our family, it actually was perfect and we were all pleasantly satiated and happy after dinner.

Dream Dinners really has been a dream and makes deciding what to eat much less of a fuss in our home.  Normally it takes 15 minutes to decide what we are going to cook, but with Dream Dinners, I run out to the freezer, grab a pre-prepped meal and get to work cooking.  To help earn some extra meals I enrolled in PlatePoints.  You can do this easily through their website and earn some great perks and meals!

I cannot say enough good stuff about Dream Dinners and how easy they have made home cooked meals.  Please make sure to check them out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

Remembering Grandma at Disney On Ice Treasure Trove

When I was a little girl my grandmother and I did a lot of special things together. One thing we both loved was the ice skating shows.  When they first started they were called the Ice Capades and then there was some random ice shows between that and finally Disney on Ice began.  We nearly never missed a show through all those transitions.  Grandma loved Disney and putting the movies onto the ice really was something that we could have only dreamed of when I was a little girl.

Even as an adult I would come home from college and take grandma to shows.  Occasionally my sister would come, but not always.  However, the shows are just as special for her and something we now do together always.  We really just enjoy the beauty of the show, the magic of Disney and the fun evening out spending time as a family.

There are always two shows in Denver in a year.  The first show is around March and the last show is in early December.  We do our best to fit them in our schedules as best we can.  Now that grandma has passed, I try even harder because being there makes me feel closer to her.

The show that just came through was Treasure Trove.  It was a great mash up of old and a bit of new. We prepped the kids, of course dressing the peanut up as Snow White and grabbed the mandatory snow cone in a souvenir cup.  I easily have 30 of these cups in my cupboard and honestly I could not get rid of a single one.  Each one carries a memory, a moment and mostly a part of my grandma.  My kids love the cones, I love the cups.  Win-Win!

The show started and opened with a fun little dance number.  Our littlest was laughing and jumping and shaking it with the Toy Story characters.  So much fun already!

After that the guest of honor and his friends joined us.  Yup!  MICKEY MOUSE!  This is always the best part of the show.  Kids eyes light up, the crowd ignites in a cheer and the magic really begins.

This show was one that grandma would have really loved.  Treasure Trove was not just a title, it was a feeling.  All the nostalgia of the movies from my childhood mixed with the classics and couple new princess movies.  It was perfection.

Our seats were great and surprisingly the show was not well attended the evening we went.  It was the first time I had been to a Disney On Ice show where is was not heavily attended.  Honestly though, not fighting the crowds for bathroom breaks and food, having elbow room around us and the ease of parking was really a wonderful thing to relish in.

Disney on Ice is not without is show stopping grand finale.  All the princesses and main characters joined in for a wonderful dance number complete with fireworks and a sing a long!  I know I was singing along and enjoying the heck out of the evening.

To close the show, Mickey and Minnie bid adieux to the roar of the crowd.  It may not have been heavily attended but the crowd really enjoyed the performance.

I love the fact that we can bring the magic of Disney right in front of our faces here in Denver.  My daughter keeps thinking that she went to Disneyland, which works for me!  I am so glad to be passing this tradition onto my children and sharing it with the ones I love.  I am already eagerly waiting for December for our next Disney on Ice extravaganza!
